Abstract Piece by Lina Benaissa
"Algerian, French artist based between London and Dubai. Having an international upbringing has made me prone to celebrate differences. Travelling has been an important factor in the shaping of myself as a person and as an artist. Influenced by a diversity of cultures, my work intends to create different worlds through which the viewer finds an escape. ​These are intuitive paintings through which I make tests on colours, techniques, textures and language. The pieces presented here consist of my most recent work, distorted portraits combined with coded poems. My inspiration for them comes from the summation of faces I have seen, words I have read or heard and colour combinations I associate to smells I have whiffed.​These elements come out rather unconsciously on paper or canvas, mostly without prior investigation, as I believe raw inspiration provides the best outcomes. Ultimately this absurd way of working leaves my art open to unlimited interpretation, giving nonsense a thousand senses."
