Behind the Art: Stencils
Step #1:
The process begins with painting the background with a single color.
For this specific piece, I chose a bright green to achieve a strong contrast with the "Space" stencil that's added later.
Step #2:
Using a cut-out with the shape of the volcano, the first layer is added.
Step #3:
Now using a cut-out with the shape of the "smoke cloud", I use the spray paint technique of "space painting" that has been made popular by street artists.
The technique involves first painting each planet and then covering them with round objects, to later use black spray over it and add the finishing touches.
Step #4:
The last step is simply painting over the last stencil layer using white spray.
